Coaches have a “bad name”. Here's why, and what to look for instead.

"Coaches have a bad name." A few people have said this to my face recently, and to be honest, I wasn't really aware of it. As each conversation went on, it became clear they weren't talking about qualified, accredited coaches. They meant people who call themselves coaches, dish out generic advice and sell course after shallow course.

That isn't coaching.

The real issue is that coaching isn't regulated in the UK. Anyone can use the title tomorrow, with no training, no supervision and no ethical framework behind them.

This is the first in a three part series on what actually goes into a coaching accreditation, starting with the International Coaching Federation's credential levels. Not to gatekeep, just so you can choose a coach with your eyes open.
